Academic departments of UoC are grouped into seven distinct faculties, along with a Graduate School and faculty-based research centres, for those wishing to gain a qualification by research.
Overview of Faculties
All faculties deliver courses across two main campuses of UoC at Chester and Warrington. Some faculties also work in partnerships across the local region, and offer courses at a number of off-site locations.
Faculty of Arts and Humanities
School of Arts and Media
The School of Arts and Media delivers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate media and creative arts courses across the campuses at Chester and Warrington, and supports considerable foundation degree delivery at a number of partner colleges. The Faculty received highest research rating of UoC in the most recent research assessment exercise.
School of Humanities
The School of Humanities' primary commitment is to the provision of high-quality taught programmes, fully informed by scholarship and research. The school also attaches great importance to its many and varied collaborative activities (local, regional, national and international), since these conspicuously enrich the provision the faculty is able to offer. The most recent RAE submissions for English, History and TRS have been particularly successful.
Chester Business School
Education and Children's Services
The role of the Faculty of Education and Children's Services lies at the very core of the insitution's original beginnings, in 1839, when it was first established as a teacher training institution. The role has grown enormously to encompass teacher education and educational theory courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as a broad range of CPD provision for teachers, partnership development, cultural and community work and research.
Health and Social Care
The Faculty of Health and Social Care is a major provider of health and social work programmes across Cheshire, Wirral and Warrington. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for health and social work professionals.
Research is a central and growing part of the Faculty's activities, and they have significant achievements reflected in published work, research grants and postgraduate supervision.
Medicine and Life Sciences
The Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences is based on the Parkgate Road Campus, Chester.
Science and Engineering
The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers degrees in engineering, sciences, mathematics and computing using a strongly interdisciplinary teaching philosophy. It has strong links to Thornton Science Park, a major research and innovation hub for the North West and the base for the Faculty’s post-graduate research provision.
Social Science
The Faculty offers an extensive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, taught predominantly at the Parkgate Road Campus, Chester, but with provision in Policing taught at the Warrington Campus. A key feature of work in all four specialist subject areas below is the inter-relationship between social science and issues of everyday concern that have relevance for policy making.
