Personal Reflections

Listening to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter, the speeches delivered by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the People’s Organization, and the work report made by Chairman Wang Hongyan on All China Youth Federation, I was very excited and encouraged. In the report, it is mentioned that we should work hard to win the battle of poverty alleviation, promote the action of rejuvenating rural youth, and actively serve the young people who go out to work in their hometown. When dealing with the masses face to face, I, as a grass-roots minority nationality village cadre, will try my best to understand what they need and think, be their intimate person, serve them sincerely, and make our village better and better on the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the villagers more and more prosperous.

The She Village’s “Woman in Charge”—Lei Chenzhu

After graduating from university in June 2013, Lei Chenzhu was employed as assistant secretary of the Party Branch in Qing’ao Village, Shuimen Township, Xiapu. After taking office, she put the acceleration of village-level economic development in a prominent position. The leading industries of Qing’ao were flower seedling and vegetable planting. Lei Chenzhu proposed the idea of strengthening the industry by training the local talents. She invited professional talents to the village for guidance many times, organized the village’s rich talents and farmers' technicians to study in other places, and opened up the channel between the planting base and the market. Over the past three years, the per capita net income of the villagers in Qing’ao had increased from 7,980 yuan in 2013 to 9,360 yuan in 2015, so she had won the title of “Excellent Communist Party Member” in Ningde City. In August 2016, Lei Chenzhu served as Party branch secretary and League branch secretary of Banling Village, Shuimen She Township. How to lead the villagers to get rid of poverty and make their own living had become the top priority of this “woman in charge” after Lei’s taking office.

Li Changshe, a villager, is in a poor family in the village. His parents and he are disabled and can’t do heavy work. Every year, a family of three members can barely live on the income of three or four thousand yuan brought by more than one mu of tea garden. In 2016, Banling set up files and cards for extremely poor households, five-guarantee households and disabled people, and Li Changshe was listed as a target of targeted poverty alleviation. After learning about his situation, Lei Chenzhu visited Li’s many times and wanted to set up a home for Li and expand the tea garden. In 2019, Li, with three mu tea garden, increased income by more than 20,000 yuan. The benefits brought by industrial poverty alleviation completely changed Li’s idea of “relying on the State to get rid of poverty” before. Last year, Li “freely” planted raspberries, and transported tea, and then he lived a better life.

For the young people returning home, Lei Chenzhu always wants to develop their outstanding members to join the Party. Since she became a village cadre, she has always attached great importance to strengthening the construction of village-level organizations. “The key point of Party building leading League building is to inject fresh blood into the village. Only when there are new forces, can there be vitality.” For this reason, Lei has been doing ideological work for the young people in the village. More young people go out to work. She starts with the left-behind youth at the township level, takes the initiative to find out their contact information, provides the Party and League members with opportunities to contact young people through WeChat, deepens her feelings after chatting, and learns the co-construction in the process of communication.
