Recently, the General Office of Ministry of Education issued the Notice on Publishing the List of the National and Provincial First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Sites in 2021 (JGTH [2022] No. 14). Our two majors “Computer Science and Technology” and “Landscape Architecture” were approved as the provincial first-class undergraduate program construction sites in 2021, which will play a positive role in further optimizing the major layout, strengthening discipline construction and improving the quality of talent training.
Provincial-level first-class major construction sites
In recent years, our university has adhered to the direction of training applied talents, focused on the construction of new engineering and new liberal arts, closely focused on the needs of the local economic and social development, continuously optimized the layout of disciplines and majors, strengthened university-enterprise cooperation, continued to promote the deep integration of industry and education, and achieved certain results in its major construction and teaching reform. Among them, the major “Computer Science and Technology” was selected as a pilot of comprehensive reform of major in Fujian Province in 2012, which was approved as Fujian computer experiment teaching demonstration center in 2013; approved as the specialty of construction of characteristic specialties of service industry, and listed as a pilot specialty of application transformation and development of undergraduate colleges and universities in Fujian Province in 2016; approved as a “Software Development Vocational Education Training Base” of Fujian Provincial Demonstration University-enterprise Co-construction Vocational Education Training Base in 2018; selected as a pilot of “1+X” web front-end development vocational skill level certificate of Ministry of Education in 2019; and approved as a first-class undergraduate specialty construction site in Fujian Province, with 3 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses such as Database Principles and Applications in 2021.
The major “Landscape Architecture” aims to cultivate application-oriented landscape architecture talents who master various relevant knowledge and practical abilities, such as urban landscape planning and design, landscape architecture design, landscape engineering design, landscape plant planting design and landscape construction. It was selected as the construction specialty of Fujian service industry characteristics in 2016; approved as an applied discipline pilot specialty in Fujian Province in 2017, with 3 cooperative education projects approved by Ministry of Education; its project “Project Experiential Teaching—Taking the Landscape Improvement of Niugang Mountain Park in Fuzhou as an Example” won the second prize of the 2021 MOCC and online and offline mixed teaching case; it was approved as a first-class undergraduate major construction site in Fujian Province in 2021, which has provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses such as Landscape Architecture Planning and Design, Landscape Dendrology, and Landscape Engineering.
At the next stage, our university will further implement the fundamental task of its building morality and cultivating talents; make its overall planning according to the requirements of the competent education department; continue to strengthen the construction of its undergraduate majors; actively give full play to the exemplary and leading role of the first-class majors in its teaching reform and innovation, undergraduate teaching team, teaching resources, quality assurance, etc.; enforce its professional characteristics; promote the continuous improvement of the overall level of its professional construction; and continuously improve the training quality of its applied talents.
