In spring there is cultivation, and in autumn there is a bountiful harvest. In order to promote the construction of first-class application-oriented undergraduate universities with high quality under the new situation of building Fujian into a “strong province in education”, from September 1st to 2nd, 2023, our university held a two-day new round of application-oriented education and teaching seminar at the Vastroam Hotel Exchange Center. Nearly a hundred people attended it, including President Jing Lin; Secretary Yu Xinran of the University Party Committee; Executive Vice President Lin Liqun; Vice Presidents Huang Bin, Chen Qingyi, and Wang Rongguo; heads of relevant functional departments, leaders of secondary schools, and those of disciplines and majors. The seminar was chaired by Wang Rongguo.
The seminar revolved around the theme of “comprehensively improving the level of applied education and accelerating the construction of a high-quality education system”, from continuously deepening the industry-university integration and the reform of applied talent training models, to improve the internal quality assurance system and achieve closed-loop management, and to comprehensively improve teachers’ teaching and research capabilities and the social service capabilities. We had conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on the four sub topics of accelerating the cultivation and construction of professional master’s degree programs, and formed a broad consensus.
At the seminar on the construction of disciplines and majors, the deans of the schools, subject leaders, industry veterans, and functional department heads discussed the development trends of chains of education, talent, industry, and innovation; and digital technology. They provided broad opinions and suggestions on major settings, talent cultivation plans, teaching models, dual teacher and dual ability teaching teams, experimental and practical conditions, university-enterprise cooperation, industry-university integration, and personnel system reform. Meanwhile, many useful suggestions and practical measures had been put forward, and our university had strengthened the construction of tis educational connotations, improved the level of its applied education, and clarified its main work in teaching engineering, scientific research level improvement, high-level talent introduction, the social services, and external exchanges in the future.
Our university has cultivated talents for 21 years and will forge ahead towards the future. At present, its development has entered a critical new stage, facing new opportunities and challenges. It will continue to deepen the comprehensive reform of its higher education, provide talent guarantee and intellectual support for the regional economic development, and make new contributions to the development of higher education in Fujian.
